Haverhill 57, Groton Dunstable 51
Alejandro Iraheta had 19 points as the Hillies broke through for coach Sean Bryan’s first career win in the opening round of the Greater Lowell Holiday Tournament on Friday.
The Hillies will now take on host Westford Academy in the semis at 7:45 p.m.
Three-time defending champ Pinkerton Academy was not uite as lucky, falling to Leominster, 71-59, despite 20 from Brady Sullivan.
Lowell High knocked off Pelham, 89-64.
The Pythons and Astros play in the consolation round on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Whittier Tech 76, Minuteman 56
Jayvian Rosario led the Wildcats and first-year coach David Stein to their first win of the year with 24 points. Senior captain Josias Henriquez knocked down five of six three-point attempts in his 15-point night.
Timberlane 47, Newmarket 35
Jeremy Mlocek paced the Owls with 14 points in the Bobcat Classic consolation game win. Mikey Santosuosso added 10.
Notre Dame Cristo Rey 62, Northeast Tech 47
The Panthers moved to 5-0 in the early going behind 18 points from junior D’Anthony Reyes. Sophomore Derian Osuna added 16. Freshman Ysael Garcia pulled down seven rebounds to go with senior captain Sebastian Garcia’s six boards and 12 points.

Windham 53, Merrimack 21
In the Cougar Classic Tournament at Derryfield, the Jaguars got off to a fine start behind a dozen points from Gabbie Gullifa. Avery Steffanides and Meghan Husson had eight apiece in the win.
Exeter 54, Salem 40
Also in the Cougar Classic, Lyndsay Goetz paced the Blue Devils with eight points. Salem collides with Windham in the tourney on Saturday.
Whittier Tech 67, Lawrence 37
The Wildcats stormed into the finals of the Amesbury Christmas Tournament with a 35-17 led at the half. Nevaeah Wilkins led all scorers with 14 points. Yami Ortiz added a dozen with seven assists. Vanessa Taylor pitched in seven with a dozen massive rebounds. The Wildcats play for the title against the host team on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Pelham 57, Central-West 45
Down 11 at the half and a point after three quarters, Pelham stormed back to advance with the opening round win at the Chandler Memorial tourney in Manchester.
Jessie Phillips and Ava Milley anchored a spirited defensive effort that held Central-West without a field goal in the fourth. Grace Riley scored 17 points in the win. Addie Breault chipped in nine and Sophia Guinazzo had eight.
Girls Hockey
Andover 7, Beverly/Danvers 3
The Warriors dominated the annual Colleen Ritzer Memorial Game behind 15 saves in net from Catie Edwards.
Scarlett Glass and Abby Walles each netted two Warrior goals. Bella DiFiore and Nora Hurley each piled up a goal and three assists. Freshman Brooke Howard had the other Andover goal. Grace Johnson and Lindsay Kenny had two assists apiece.

Hopkinton 2, North Andover 2
In the opening game of the Jersey Mike’s Holiday Tournament, hosted by Methuen High, the Knights fell in a shootout.
Methuen 1, King Philip 1
The Rangers, hosting the tourney, picked up the victory in the shootout and will play Hopkinton in Saturday night’s 7 p.m. championship game. Adam Lambert had the goal with assists to Dylan Anderson and Liam Worden. Owen O’Brien stopped 33 shots in the victory, which goes down as a tie for MIAA purposes.
Pope Francis 3, Central Catholic 0
In the opening round of the Frates Memorial Tournament, the Raiders skated through a scoreless tie deep into the third. Logan Sheedy made 27 saves in the net for Central.
Wrestling
Wildcats win Pentucket tourney
Whittier Tech’s wrestlers rose to the occasion, winning the Pentucket Holiday Tournament on Friday.
The Wildcats had a pair of champions crowned with Aiden Fogarty hitting the top of the podium at 120 and Logan Hauck dominating at 215.
Greater Lawrence Tech took third with a fine showing, led by Dylan Smith, who won the title at 150 pounds.
Led by 144-pound champ Denzel Morales, Lawrence High was 11th overall.
And Timberlane’s B squad got a title out of Zach Patti at 113.
Pelham High get not have a champion but placed sixth among the 21 teams with Liz Donovan (second at 126) and Joel Llibre (second at 175) leading the way.
