BASEBALL
Manchester Essex 4, Ipswich 2: Troy Flood tossed a complete game on the mound, letting up just two runs with six strikeouts in the Hornets’ win. Offensively, Flood walked twice, stole three bases and scored a run.
Nick Brown and Satchel Rubin each had an RBI in the win while Parker Woodman was 1-for-1 with a pair of steals, a run scored and two walks.
Gloucester 6, Haverhill 3: On Monday, Brayden Francis threw a complete game while allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out eight to help power Gloucester to victory. Charlie Amero, Giacomo Martell and Francis each had two hits with Amero knocking in a pair of runs as well. Ben Mello, however, had the play of the game with a go-ahead 3-run homer in the fourth. Lucas Simendinger and Nico Alves were strong defensively in the win.
SOFTBALL
Manchester Essex 11, Ipswich 10: On Monday, Anna Gardner struck out 17 batters while going the distance on the mound to help the Hornets hang on for a narrow victory over their CAL rivals. Gardner also went 2-for-5 at the plate while swiping four bases and scoring twice. Abby Aiello was 1-for-3 with two RBI, Lucy Parmelee went 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Katie Crompton went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI as well.
On Tuesday, the Hornets fell to Swampscott, 14-4.
BOYS LACROSSE
Manchester Essex 14, Woburn 4: The Hornets moved to 4-1 on the season with a convincing road win.
Swampscott 18, Gloucester 3: The Fishermen fell at home, with James Sanfilippo, Sam Sanfilippo and Kellen Moran tallying the goals. Charles Terelak assisted on all three goals while goalie Jaeden Chipperini made 16 saves in net.
