EJ Perry IV needed a bounce-back game after a tough Week 2 in the UFL.
Sunday afternoon, he delivered in one of the best performances of his professional career.
The Michigan Panthers quarterback hit on 16 of 19 passes for 208 and a TD and also ran nine times for 60 yards and two more scores, powering his club to a 34-20 win over the Houston Roughnecks.
“It’s part of the process, just each week getting better. We’ve always had confidence in the offense, and it’s now good to just put it on the field, what we’ve been working towards. The last two weeks we’ve made plays, and now we take the step and add consistency to it,” said Perry, to ABC’s Kayla Burton in the postgame.
“It’s just execution, everyone on the same page, all 11 guys doing the same stuff. When you get that, you get long drives that end in touchdowns, that end in points, that end in kicks. That’s what the process is about. Next week, we want to take another step.”
Perry, who now leads the UFL with four rushing touchdowns, was sure to wish his parents, EJ and Kathleen a happy anniversary after the game.
“Happy anniversary, love you mom, love you dad,” he said.
Dad attended the game at Ford Field in Detroit, while mom held down the home front.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 2-1 and sit in second place in the USFL Conference of the UFL.
Through three games, Perry has now completed 48 of 67 passes for 587 yards with three TDs and three interceptions. He has also run 10 times for 102 yards.
Perry and the Panthers travel to San Antonio on Saturday night.
