The 2024 Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Concert Series will continue with a concert on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. with a performance by Chris Jones and the Night Drivers.
The concert will be held at Athens State University, in McCandless Hall, including an educational component regarding the history and impact of the Delmore Brothers.
Chris Jones and the Night Drivers make some of the most distinctively elegant, yet driving bluegrass music heard anywhere today. Deeply rooted in tradition, but never bound to it, they deliver original music with tight arrangements, emotional authenticity and engaging humor.
“Chris Jones’ voice is there with the great masters,” Steve Martin, actor and banjo player, said. “(The Night Drivers) are some of the best players in bluegrass.”
Collectively, Chris Jones and the Night Drivers have won 18 International Bluegrass Music Association awards. The group has also earned 21 No. 1 songs in their history together.
The band’s latest release, their first all-original album, “Make Each Second Last,” received strong reviews. The album has already yielded an unprecedented eight consecutive number one songs so far, including the title track “We Needed This Ride.”
Their song, “Riding the Chief,” co-written by Chris and Thomm Jutz, was nominated for 2022 IBMA Song of the Year. They have topped both the Bluegrass Today and Roots Music Review airplay charts with the latest album.
Tickets for the show are $15 for adults and $5 for children. All tickets can be purchased by visiting the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Concert Series website, www.TVOTFC.org.
This event is sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention Steering Committee, the Livingston Concert/Lecture Series and Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area.
All of the funding was made possible by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
