Members of the 127 Senior Center are always ready for a good laugh when they gather for their regular Friday morning meetings, and Leonard Hollender can be counted on to have a very funny joke ready for them.
Leonard will be celebrating his 97th birthday next month and has enjoyed being a member of the center for many years now.
Leonard Hollender’s joke of the day:
Late one night I was heading home and took a shortcut through the cemetery. Hearing a constant tapping sound, I became scared and stepped up my pace. The tapping got louder until I was pretty much scared out of my wits! Then I noticed a man chiseling a tombstone. I said to him “Oh, it’s you – you gave me the fright of my life! Why are you working so late?” He said, “They spelled my name wrong.”
In addition to Leonard’s funny jokes, the 127 Seniors always have either a speaker or musical entertainment at their regular meetings every Friday and this week they enjoyed hearing Charlie Campbell play guitar and sing some great oldies tunes.
The Friday meetings start with the doors opening at 8 a.m. for coffee and fellowship, games or just chatting and catching up with old friends and making new ones.
Visitors are greeted by two of the friendliest ladies you will ever meet — Diane and Betty, who will fill you in on everything you need to know about the Center, and then introduce you to some new friends. Bingo is from 9:30-10:30. The members wish to thank Dennis and Sharon Daniels for sponsoring bingo prizes at the last meeting. After bingo, President Arlene Simmons leads a short meeting where members find out about coming events. After the speaker or entertainer, lunch is available for members for $5.
The community is invited to the 127 Senior Center at 1460 S. Main St., Crossville, for live music from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday.
Gene Brown and friends always provide some great music of various types including bluegrass, country, and more.
There’s dancing, too, and all are welcome!
