PEABODY — Kaplan Estates celebrated Friday 10 residents who are turning 100 or older this year with a group birthday party that included a woman who will be 110 this fall.
The party honored Alice Wallack (100), Jennie Ruggeirio (100), Adrienne Arkun (100), Betty DeAngelis (100), Adrien Arkun (100), Barbara Cantor (100), Karen Stumpf (101), Marie Cassisdy (103), Kay Morocco (104) and Rose Regis, who will be 110 in November.
Each of the residents lives in their own apartment at Kaplan Estates’ assisted living facility on Lynnfield Street.
They all still take part in daily activities at the facility. Kay Morocco, who turns 104 in August, goes to ballroom dancing events at the Torigian Senior Center every week in her high heels.
“Kay insists on using the stairs at the assisted living [facility] instead of taking the elevator so she can ‘keep fit for ballroom dancing,’” according to a statement from Kaplan.
Friday’s party at Kaplan was attended by family, friends and neighbors of the centennials. It featured music by Ray Nolan and his trio and a speech by Mayor Ted Bettencourt, who presented each of the 10 residents with a birthday citation.
“There was laughter, applause and smiles all around,” Kaplan said in the statement. “They are truly an inspiration to us all.”
