NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Chamber Music Festival’s Winter Baroque Concert takes place Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with the program’s centerpiece being a period version of Handel’s “Water Music.”
The iconic series of suites was performed specifically for King George I on his barge traveling the river Thames. In addition to Handel, there is also solo violin music and a Bach sonata for cello and harpsichord.
NCMF welcomes artists Cynthia Roberts, Eliana Razzino Yang, John McKean and Perry Sutton for this performance. Violinist Cynthia Roberts, head of historical violin at Juilliard, returns to Newburyport after many years. She performs throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Eliana Razzino Yang returns on the cello. Yang has performed recitals in New York, London, Paris, Rome, Helsinki and Cologne, and is a graduate student at Juilliard.
Harpsichord player John McKean, an active performer throughout North America and Europe, returns to Newburyport for this concert.
For those who enjoy brass, the addition of trumpet player Perry Sutton should make this concert a special treat. This year is the first in many to include trumpet for the Winter Baroque Concert.
