PLATTSBURGH — Zach LaPier scored six goals, including three short-handed tallies, and added two assists to help power the Beekmantown hockey team to a season-opening 13-3 win over Niskayuna in non-conference play Sunday.
Sam Bingel added three goals and five assists for the Eagles.
“I was super proud of our young team’s effort and execution of the game plan today against a Division I opponent,” Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette said. “Having 11 freshmen on our roster this season I could not be more proud of how they played in their first varsity game.
“Zach LaPier and Sam Bingel were dominant all game for us up front, each recording eight points in the game, with Zach scoring six goals three of which were short handed.”
Louis Sweenor chipped in with two goals for Beekmantown, while Keegin Rodier and Mason Carter added one each. Carter’s goal was his first on the varsity.

ST. LAWRENCE 7, NCCS 3
CANTON — Northeastern Clinton dropped a couple of non-conference games over the weekend to Section X’s Canton and St. Lawrence Central.
Owen Ebersol had a big weekend for the Cougars with four goals and an assist. Winnie Simpson contributed two goals and two assists in the two games, and Josh Seymour had two assists in the loss to the Larries.
“Obviously, it’s early in the season and we still have a lot of work to do,” NCCS coach Scott Lafountain said. “But we can’t allow Canton to score five goals in the first period.
“Credit to the whole team against St. Lawrence as we had only 13 skaters. Credit to Owen Ebersol and Winnie Simpson for being leaders on the weekend.
“Hopefully, we will have some healthy bodies back soon.”
