Crossville Police responded to a call of vandalism and trespassing at a residence on Old Lantana Rd. to find the caller’s ex-girlfriend sleeping in his bed and the house trashed.
Rachel N. Shaffer, 43, Goose Pointe Circle, denied the allegations. She was charged with vandalism of more than $1,000 and aggravated criminal trespassing.
The incident occurred Nov. 21 shortly before 6 p.m. when a resident returned to his home in the 300 block of Old Lantana Rd. He found numerous items in his home damaged or destroyed and a woman he recognized as an ex-girlfriend sleeping in his bed.
When police arrived, they awakened the woman and asked her why she had entered the residence and damaged the property. The woman — who appeared to be intoxicated — told police she was at her new boyfriend’s home and that her ex-boyfriend had called police.
When asked if she would damage her new boyfriend’s home, she replied she would not and then admitted when she moved out of the house two months earlier, she had surrendered her front door key but kept her rear door key because she still had property in the house.
She continued to deny causing $1,020 in estimated damages, according to SPtl. Amy Sherrill’s report.
Shaffer will face an appearance in General Sessions Court.
