It was evident that the holiday season had begun across the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire as three major holiday parades rolled through over the weekend, bringing holiday cheer and even alleged sightings of the big man himself.
In North Andover, elves, Scouts and the North Andover High School marching band appeared in the town’s annual parade, which began at North Andover Middle School. The elves, hailing from the North Andover Lions Club, handed out treats to spectators.
In Andover, firefighters brought cheer with the annual Santa Parade. Except for 2020 during the pandemic, the parade has been held each year since 1955.
In Derry, the emphasis was on unsung heroes and local businesses. During the Nutfield Holiday Parade, police, firefighters, teachers and volunteers were recognized for their roles in the community. The celebration also included efforts to incentivize purchases at local businesses.
The festivities wrapped up with a Christmas tree lighting.
