It’s already been an historic year for the Georgetown golf team.
Last week, thanks to the play of Will Sorenson, Ty Southall and Chase Pelletier — among others — the Royals were able to do something the program has never done before. With a nailbitting win over Ipswich, 116-114, the Royals were able to clinch their first ever CAL Baker title in school history.
And the strong golf continued at Thursday’s CAL Open.
Only a freshman still, Southall tore up Far Corner Golf Course to the tune of a 74 (+2), which was good enough for 69 quota points to take home the CAL Open medalist title. Each member school in the league sends two golfers to the Open, and at the end of the round, it was Southall’s score that stood atop the 24 competitors in attendance.
Behind him was Triton’s Mason Colby. The junior finished second after firing a 4-over 76, which netted him 65 quota points. The Vikings also sent Vincent Magee, who shot an 85 to pick up 52 points.
Newburyport sent senior captain Colby Arel and freshman Jack Oreal to Far Corners, and the duo finished back-to-back at 5th 6th. Arel, who just won the ‘King Rat’ honor to lead the Clippers to the River Rival title last Monday, finished with 60 quota points, while Oreal posted 58.
