Some non-league, Division 2 competition didn’t faze Pentucket softball.
Traveling over to take on a Merrimack Valley opponent in North Andover on Wednesday, the Panthers crushed 10 hits in an eventual 11-1 victory. Leading the way offensively was freshman Kam Bonneau, who went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run over the fence. Senior captain Kayla Murphy went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and both Mia Bartholomew — a fellow senior captain — and Sarah Freitas went 2-for-4.
Then in the circle for Pentucket (6-0), Molly LeBel struck out six while the lone run she allowed wasn’t earned. The Panthers will look to stay undefeated when they host Haverhill on Friday for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
Offense cold, Amesbury lax takes loss
The Amesbury boys lacrosse team couldn’t crack into the win column on Tuesday, as the offense went cold in a 9-4 loss to Manchester Essex. Max White scored twice, Braden Delisle and Evan Murphy found the back of the net, and Grady Hagan, Chase Linsey and Nicky Creps all had an assist.
The Redhawks (0-6) will look to get on the scoreboard when they host Lynnfield on Monday.
Thompson smacks HR, but Newburyport falls
The Newburyport softball team couldn’t steal one on the road at Essex Tech on Tuesday evening, falling 7-4. The Clippers (3-4) could only muster three hits on the day, coming from Lilah Thompson going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Clara Thompson going 1-for-2 with a home run.
It’s now two straight setbacks for the Clippers, who will look to rebound when they travel over to Reading on Thursday (4:15 p.m.).
