AVERILL PARK — Albany Academy has been to the Final Four for the past two seasons. Unfortunately for Peru, the Nighthawks stood in their way of continuing towards another.
And it didn’t start well for Peru.
Albany Academy ran out to a 14-0 lead before the Nighthawks got a basket, and Peru could never get comfortable in a 70-39 NYSPHSAA Class A sub regional game, Wednesday.
With the loss, Peru finishes their season 17-5 and 12-1 in the CVAC.
Reese Duprey led the Nighthawks with 21 points as the team never gave up and continued to fight until the final buzzer.
The Bears were led by Eva Gitto’s 22 points as six different players knocked down a three for Albany. Gitto had two of them.
Alex Leonard added 19 for the Section II team that moves on in the tournament.
“Albany academy is an extremely talented and well rounded team,” Peru head coach Brittany Marshall said. “Our girls fought hard until the final buzzer tonight. Reese Duprey played phenomenal all around..
“Every single player entered the game tonight and contributed positively. Although our season came to an end tonight, I couldn’t be more proud of how these girls performed this season.”
“These girls truly bought into our program culture, trusted the process and worked incredibly hard to get to where they did this season. We close the chapter tonight with our heads held high.”
