MADISON LAKE — One man fell through the ice Tuesday while fishing on Madison Lake, prompting an emergency response.
First responders located Frank David Cesario, 71, of rural Mankato, holding onto the edge of the ice in the water after receiving a call for service at 1:03 p.m. Joseph Edward Postels, 75, of North Mankato, was on the ice nearby. The two men had been fishing.
Both were loaded into inflatable rafts and brought to shore, where they were later transported by ambulance to a hospital to be treated for possible hypothermia, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office, conservation officers and Madison Lake Fire and Mayo Ambulance personnel were involved in the response. Deputies used cold-weather floatation suits during the rescue, which were issued in recent years.
