PORT HENRY — Cooper Allen put on a show on Friday while reaching the 1,000-point milestone for his varsity basketball career.
Allen took over the game with 34 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Moriah to a 69-48 victory over Northeastern Clinton in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference non-league play.
Joe Pelkey added eight points, seven rebounds and nine assists for the Vikings, while Wyatt Whitman finished with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.
“We struggled early and had too many turnovers,” Moriah coach Don Tesar Jr. said. “NCCS did a great job battling on the boards. They forced us to play into their hands early on kept us from getting out into transition.”
The Cougars were led offensively by Logen Magoon with 12 points, Maxx Rabideau with 12 and Colton Castine, nine.

“We are missing too many opportunities offensively and lacked intensity on defense much of the night,” NCCS coach Robb Garrand said. “Bailey Hewson had a great game for PHS and we did not do a good job of defending her. Coach (Kelly) Weiss has done a great job with the PHS program.
“Lexi Roberts gave us a great spark in the second quarter getting us back into the game.”

SCHROON LAKE — The Wildcats put up a good battle in the non-league setback.
Sydney Hart led Schroon Lake with 19 points, while Carly Smith added 16 and Olivia Hartwell 13. Clark hit four three-pointers and Smith three.
Smith also added 19 rebounds and five steals, and Kenzie Cutting chipped in with 12 rebounds.
Ellie York poured in 29 points for Warrensburg, including four three-pointers.
“It was a great back and forth game not decided until the final minutes,” Schroon Lake coach Jeff Cutting said.
“York is a special scorer. We tried everything and she still couldn’t miss. She hit a couple of pull-up jumpers with defenders all over her in the final minutes to help them pull away.
“I was really pleased with how tough we played against a school and team that was much bigger than we are. The girls really showed something special tonight even in the loss with the way they battled the whole game.”
