A Niagara Falls man was found with a ghost gun during inmate processing at the Niagara County Correctional Facility on Thursday.
David G. Dillen, 43, of 7713 Greenview Road, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon: ghost gun and first-degree introducing dangerous contraband into a prison.
The weapon was found after Dillen was taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop in Wheatfield. A search by jail staff revealed a loaded 9mm handgun in his belt line that had not been discovered during a roadside search.
When a corrections sergeant located the weapon, later determined to be a ghost gun, Dillen told him, “5th Amendment right.” Dillen was placed in a cell and the deputy asked if he possessed a valid pistol permit. “That’s my fundamental right,” Dillen responded.
Ghost Guns are unserialized firearms put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces.
Dillen was initially stopped on Shawnee Road in Wheatfield about 8 a.m. Thursday after sheriff’s deputies said he was drifting in and out of his lane and almost drove into a ditch.
