Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club welcomes the public to join them for their meeting with Tennessee Speaker of the House Speaker Cameron Sexton.
The meeting starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Upper Cumberland at 910 Miller Ave., Crossville.
“Known as a pragmatic conservative, Rep. Sexton has prioritized the health and well-being of Tennessee’s citizens throughout his legislative service,” said Republican Women’s Club member Elizabeth Moritz. “Most recently, he sponsored and received unanimous support for Truth in Sentencing legislation which requires persons committing certain violent and heinous crimes to serve 100% of the sentence imposed by the court.”
Moritz added, “As always, at the conclusion of the Speaker’s talk, he will be happy to entertain any questions from the club’s members.”
Sexton, R-Crossville, was first elected to represent the 25th House District in 2010 and was elected the 83rd Speaker of the Tennessee House in August 2019. His House district includes Cumberland County and part of Putnam County.
Prior to election as speaker, Sexton served in leadership in the General Assembly as House Republican Caucus Chairman, chair of the House Health Committee and Majority Whip.
“The Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club works to promote an informed public through political education and activity,” Moritz said. “In addition to political activities, the club supports causes that assist women and children in the community and encourages continuing education of local students by sponsoring annual scholarships and literacy projects.”
The club also encourages attendees to bring nonperishable food donations to restock TCAT’s Grab and Go student food pantry.
