NEWBURYPORT — The Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport and 10 families they serve will receive some extra holiday cheer this month, thanks to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
As a recipient of the Flutie Foundation’s Holiday Giving program, The Arc of GHN, which supports people with autism and intellectual disabilities in the Merrimack Valley, was chosen to receive $1,000 for families in need this holiday season.
The Arc of GHN staff gathered at Jersey Mike’s in Newburyport on Dec. 12 to celebrate and accept the surprise funding, which will be used to purchase 10 $100 Market Basket gift cards that will be given to 10 local families supporting someone with autism or an intellectual disability. Jersey Mike’s is a long-time partner of the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, and the Newburyport location also donated 12 subs to the organization.
“Families supporting someone with autism or an intellectual disability face additional challenges and hardships that most of us don’t realize. The ability to offer a little boost around the holidays to some very deserving families is a wonderful gift to us as an organization. We are so thankful to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism for the ongoing commitment to families affected by autism with real and tangible support,” The Arc of GHN Family Support Center Director Andrea Morris said.
