MIDDLEPORT — The Royalton-Hartland school district’s proposed $35.2 million capital improvement project was approved overwhelmingly by district residents in a Wednesday special election.
The vote tally, 163 approve-17 object, was posted Wednesday night at the district website.
The project, whose estimated construction timeline is spring 2026 through summer 2028 when students are not on campus, calls for upgrades at all three school buildings — particularly the high school where mini stairways in the newer (1938 and 1948) portions are to be replaced with ramps, for the purpose of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the 1911 portion will receive a new roof, some replacement windows and lintels, restored cornices and masonry and an upgraded fire sprinkler system.
At the middle school a new playground is to be installed, and at the elementary school new auditorium seating is planned.
The tab is to be covered with state building aid and the use of savings in two reserve funds, making for a “zero tax impact” capital project, district treasurer Jessica Landers said previously.
