HAMBLETON, W.Va. — Tucker County outscored Mountain Ridge by 12 in the first quarter en route to a 59-45 home win over the Miners on Monday night.
Mountain Ridge (0-2) and Tucker (1-0) played even the rest of the way, with the Mountain Lions having a 40-38 edge. The Miners trailed 19-7 after one, 31-18 at the half and 43-28 after three quarters.
Cameron Breighner scored a game-high 18 points for Mountain Ridge, and Kris Washington also finished in double figures with 12.
Tallying double-digit points for Tucker County were Garrett Wilfong (16), Trevan Bonner (15) and Mikey Mitchell (14).
Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game 58-35. Carter Clites led the Miners with 21 points, and Nathan Miller and Levi Clise garnered 11 each.
Gabe Oliver paced the Tucker JVs with eight points.
Mountain Ridge is at Shalom on Thursday at 7 p.m.
