Criminal Court Judge Gary McKenzie announced a new policy going into effect that affects those seeking a jury trial. It was noted the vast majority of those having trial dates set plead guilty at the last minute.
With a high demand for trial dates, McKenzie told defendants once the motion date has come and passed, the only guilty plea the court will accept will be to the indictment with judge sentencing, as opposed to a negotiated plea settlement.
