TRAVERSE CITY — Adults and children of all ages are invited downtown for the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting and parade, sponsored by the Downtown Traverse City Association and the National Cherry Festival, as well as many local businesses.
At 3:30 p.m., most of Front Street will close in preparation for the event.
Festivities officially begin at 5:30 p.m. when Santa and the mayor will illuminate the gigantic pine tree at the corner of Cass and Front streets.
Next, the Light Parade will roll down Front Street from Franklin to Union streets featuring dozens of floats, musical performances and the big guy himself.
The parade will conclude about 6:30 p.m. but the celebration will continue until 9 p.m., including visits to Santa’s House at City Center Plaza (located at the corner of State and Cass streets).
