BROWNSTOWN — The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers were 26-8 last season, losing in the Class 1A Mt. Olive Regional Finals.
Head coach Tim Pasley is entering his third season and has a career record of 46-19
Pasley talked about the forthcoming season below.
Outlook on the season
“We’re looking forward to another successful season. In my last two seasons, we’ve had over 20 wins. We don’t see any reason for not being there again this year. We’ve got a lot of questions after losing the senior group that I had last year, but I think we have the girls who are ready to step up and fill those spots. I feel pretty confident that we should have a very successful season.”
Feelings before the new season begins
“I’m excited to see how we come together. We have a pretty experienced sophomore group that has been together. I coached them in junior high. They had a state run as eighth graders and they know how to win. They play hard; it’s been a good shot in the arm for the program. I have a couple of juniors — Presley Williams and Addie Sasse — who I really expect to do big things. I’ve got two seniors. Jaydin Huddlestun showed me a lot over the summer. She slowed things down a little bit in her mind and had a good summer. Katie Berner is probably one of the most athletic girls on my team overall. She’s super quick and gained a lot of confidence over the summer and early here in these practices. I look for all of them to contribute.”
Returners
“We lose some big names and numbers in the book with graduating seniors that we lost, but I have girls ready to step up and put those numbers up for them. I expect really big things out of Dayana Haslett. She was an all-state third-team selection as a freshman. She came in and quickly got up to speed with the high school game. We weren’t sure how it would go, but she didn’t flinch. She came in and put numbers up. Madi Miller will be one of my bigs. I look forward to her picking up some of that scoring slack. Addie Sasse just continues to grow, and the good thing about her is she was used to being a guard all through grade school and junior high, so she can handle the basketball. She shot up in height and has worked on her postgame, so she’s a double threat. Presley Williams is long and sneaky quick. She’ll get a lot of points off turnovers and layups and she’s done a lot better at taking the ball to the basket. I look for her numbers to get better. Danika Ramsey is probably one of the hardest workers I got. She comes in, is fun and keeps practice light. She’s always up to learn and listen and do new things that she hasn’t been asked to do, but she doesn’t shy away from it. She’s going to be a big part of it, too.”
Newcomers
“This is my first time seeing these girls. I coached a couple of them. Peyton Barker has all the height in the world. She’s very strong in there. She is a little raw but doesn’t shy away from hard work, so she’s only getting better with every practice. Mya Barker probably has the biggest heart and hustle on the team. I look forward to her getting some quality minutes for me. Addison Koonce handled the basketball at the junior high level, so she will come up and give me a little help on junior varsity, but man, she can shoot a basketball. We’ll see where she shakes out as well. Sydney Sefton is in there mixing it up with some of the better bigs around the area. She’s learning quickly and not shying away from the work, either.
