LOCKPORT — A Niagara County grand jury has indicted a Buffalo teen in connection with the murder of a Falls man who died when he was run over “multiple times” in the 200 block of Hyde Park Boulevard in the early morning hours of Oct. 15.
Patrick Washington III, 19, of Buffalo, was charged by the grand jury with second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The indictment was unsealed during an arraignment Thursday in front of Niagara County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek.
Washington pleaded not guilty to the charges and was ordered held without bail pending further court proceedings.
He was taken into custody early Wednesday evening by members of the U.S. Marshals Felony Fugitive Task Force.
Falls Police patrol officers responded to a call of a “pedestrian struck by a vehicle”, at around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 15, in the area of 287 Hyde Park Blvd., near D Street. The first officers on the scene said they found the victim, identified as Xavier Goder, 26, of the Falls, “unresponsive” and lying in the street.
Goder was treated by medical personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Witnesses reportedly told Falls Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) detectives that Goder had been involved in a “fight with several other people.” The witnesses said that Goder was left lying in the street as a result of injuries he suffered during the fight.
As Goder lay in the street, witnesses told police that Washington got into an SUV and ran him over with the vehicle. Video of the incident reportedly shows Washington driving over Goder, reversing his vehicle back over him and then driving over him again.
Washington was last seen driving away from the scene in a black 2009 Ford Escape, with New York license plates. The vehicle was later recovered in the 3500 block of Royal Avenue.
CID detectives identified Washington as the “suspect driver” and began a search for him. Investigators said an attorney, claiming to represent Washington, later contacted them but refused to let them speak with his client.
