Ciara Geraghty just kept ascending.
Two years ago as a sophomore, the Newburyport field hockey midfielder got her first taste of overall league status when she was named to the CAL All-Star team. Then last year, she took that natural next step forward and earned a spot on the 15-person All-CAL First Team.
So, really, there was only one more hill to climb this fall.
And she had no issue reaching that summit.
With the release of the 2024 CAL field hockey awards last week, Geraghty was honored as this year’s Kinney MVP. A senior quad-captain who is committed to continue the sport at Bates College next year, Geraghty led Newburyport (15-4-2) to a share of the Kinney title followed by a run to the Division 3 quarterfinals. Over the past three seasons that she has earned a spot on an All-League team, the Clippers have gone a combined 52-10-4.
So naturally, with that record, Geraghty wasn’t alone in earning an All-Star nod.
Newburyport saw both forward Olivia Wilson — the team’s top scorer this year — and midfielder Riley Lombard make the 15-person All-CAL First Team, while defender Olivia Kreuz was named a CAL All-Star. Which is a great sign for the Clippers, as all three are juniors who are in line to return next season.
Elsewhere, Pentucket saw the senior midfield duo of Cat Colvin and Katherine Flaherty make the All-CAL team for the second consecutive season. Obviously both have experienced tremendous success in the sport of field hockey, but Flaherty (Endicott) and Colvin (Hobart) are actually committed to play lacrosse in college. The Panthers (9-7-4) also took home this year’s CAL Kinney Sportsmanship Award.
Lastly, Triton junior forward Delaney Quinn was named to the All-CAL team, while Daily News All-Star senior goalie Sophie Chapman once again made the CAL All-Star roster. Amesbury, which won the Sportsmanship Award in the Baker Division, saw seniors Gabi Peixoto and Ruby Edmond be named CAL All-Stars.
