PEABODY — State Rep. Tom Walsh, D-Peabody, was honored by the Massachusetts Coalition of Police at the Statehouse last week.
This statewide law enforcement union presented Walsh with the award for his “long-standing efforts on behalf of the law enforcement community,” according to a statement from Walsh’s office.
“His thoughtful and careful consideration of every piece of legislation that passes his desk is a testament to his dedication to not only public safety, but every resident of Massachusetts,” MCOP Vice President John E. Nelson said in the statement.
Walsh was chosen for the award because of his legislative efforts. This includes his bill H.2416, which aims to prevent human trafficking in Massachusetts, specifically in the state’s hotels and motels, and for securing funding to maintain the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial in Boston, according to the statement.
“Rep. Walsh has made it a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each and every one of us,” Nelson said.
Walsh said he was honored to receive the award.
“In addition to ensuring the safety of our neighborhoods, our local law enforcement officers have a tremendous impact on the communities in which they serve,” Walsh said in the statement. “An officer’s positive effect can be felt by the many lives they touch, by the good deeds they perform and the countless children they inspire.”
