PLATTSBURGH — Halloween marked the last Community Meal of Trinity Episcopal Church before its temporary pause as it re-organizes to make important improvements that will benefit both its guests and the local community.
The church is located at 18 Trinity Place in Downtown Plattsburgh.
During this time, the church will be working to create an even more welcoming and nutritious experience for everyone. The church is exploring new volunteer opportunities and menu options to enrich its program, according to a press release.
“It’s been in existence for more than 30 years, and it needs an upgrade in the way things are done so that we can do things better and more efficiently and more in keeping with how things are done today in society,” Leslie Scholtz, parish administrator, said.
“At the meal last week, we gave everybody notification that was there. I sent the press release to other people also.”
The free meal provides more than 100 meals to visitors on Thursday afternoon. Since the pandemic, the meal is takeout with pickup times between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
During the pause, other meal options are available at Holy Cross Parish (OLVA site), Salvation Army, and St. Joseph’s Treadwell’s Mills.
The church said they are grateful for the continued support and understanding of the community as it takes this important step forward and hope to be able to share these exciting changes soon.
“We are looking at a couple of pieces of equipment that are ready to be upgraded,” Scholtz said.
“We’re just starting this reorganization. We are hoping that it won’t take too long. Nothing is really concrete yet. and also, we’re hoping to develop some new volunteer partnerships. We look forward to being up and running again with new energy and enthusiasm in the near future.”
