RIDGELEY, W.Va. — A man was charged Monday after a domestic altercation at a Ridgeley home resulted in a firearm discharging, striking the suspect and a dog.
The Ridgeley Police Department did not name the suspect, but said the Sunday incident began when he entered a residence without permission to visit a child he had in common with a resident of the home.
“Shortly after entering an argument ensued and there was a struggle between a male and female for the firearm, which discharged, striking the male in the leg,” police said in a statement.
The bullet traveled through the suspect and struck the dog, which suffered minor injuries.
The suspect fled, but was detained by law enforcement and later taken to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment.
The suspect was charged with four counts of wanton endangerment and one count of entering a residence without breaking, all felony charges in West Virginia.
He was being held Monday in the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
