VALDOSTA — Valdosta police charged a man Wednesday afternoon in connection with a robbery Tuesday morning.
About 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, a man called E911 to report he had been robbed. When officers responded, the 28-year-old man told them he was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot in the 1400 block of North Lee Street when a man approached the car and demanded money from him.
The offender grabbed the victim’s wallet and walked away from the store, police said in a press release. The victim reported to officers that he believed the offender was holding a firearm, which may have been concealed in his waistband.
Detectives obtained surveillance video that showed the incident. The video was sent to other officers in an attempt to identify the offender.
About 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, a Valdosta Police Department patrol supervisor saw a man walking near where the robbery occurred. Several officers and detectives arrived and took the 42-year-old man into custody for active arrest warrants unrelated to this case.
After the suspect was interviewed by detectives, he was transported to Lowndes County Jail. He has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching (felony) and false name and date of birth (misdemeanor) in connection with this case.
