GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Peabody wins Bay State: With four runners in the top eight (out of 82), Peabody won the B division at the MSTCA Bay State Invitational held at Wrentham. Senior captain Leah Buckley was fourth overall in 19:38 while freshman Lauren Foley was fifth (19:48), freshman Ella Braz was seventh (20:09) and senior captain Ava Buckley came in eighth (20:23). Jane Haight (15th) and Sofia Schirripa (18th) also finished in the top 20.
O’Connell, Marblehead have strong showing: Junior superstar Marri O’Connell took 11th place (19:06.04) in the 5K championship division at the Ocean State Invitational in Rhode Island, competing against 91 other competitors from across New England, New Jersey and even a team from California. In the Small School 5K, the Magicians were paced by sophomore Evelina Beltsky (84th, 23:30.9), plus seniors Abbie Goodwin (24:44.6) and Maren Potter (24:50.0), while in the freshman Small School 4K race Ruby Assa (13th, 18:00.9), Evie Becker (25th, 18:47.4) and Mary Donnellan (47th, 19:48.4) all shined.
Freshmen shine for Danvers: Madyson Danish (17th place, 18:14.4) and Paige Sherman (27th, 18:52.1) both medaled in the freshman race at the Ocean State race. In the varsity race, Addison Lamar (59th, 22:30) led the way, followed by Grace Conklin (82nd, 23:13), and Tess Ryan (24:42.8).
Senior trio guides H-W: Grace Rich (20:06), captain Charlotte Madden (20:07) and Asa Labell (20:10) finished in fifth, sixth and eighth place, respectively, to power Hamilton-Wenham at the Ocean State race. In the freshman 4K event, Anneliese Albers claimed fourth place (17:18) and Talia Labell claimed 11th (17:52).
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Smith takes first: Peabody’s Declan Smith was the overall race winner in the B division at the MSCTA Bay State Invitational with a time of 16:05 at Wrentham (the best time of the day out of 288 boys competing). Also for the Tanners, Brian Stevens was fifth in 17:10 and Mohamed Lhassouani came in ninth in 18:01.
Danvers’ Conklin wins Ocean State race: Running a smart, controlled race, senior Will Conklin of Danvers took first out of 302 runners in the Varsity 2 (small school) race to win in 16:17.4, 10 seconds better than the second place finisher. Fellow seniors JJ Rooney (5th, 16:40.8) and Chuck Garlin (9th, 17:12.8) also medaled, helping the Falcons take 16th place as a team. In the 4K freshman boys race, Kyle Hampe (27th, 15:27.9) also grabbed a medal.
Magicians ninth: At the Ocean State Invitational, Marblehead came in ninth as a team led by Nathaniel Assa’s seventh place finish and outstanding time of 16:03. Will Cerrutti placed 15th (16:17) while Jacob Szalewicz (17:36) and Will Cruikshank (17:53) also ran well.
Eagles eighth: St. John’s Prep had a strong showing at the Ocean State Invitational, scoring eighth in the team standings. Jack McIntosh was the top Eagle finisher in 16:41 (28th) while Liam Mahoney clocked 16:48 and Leopold Seltenrich ran a 17:15.
Generals take fourth: Captain Ben Rich finished 10th at the Ocean State race in 16:51, allowing Hamilton-Wenham to take 10th place. Fellow captain James Regan was 15th (16:56) to also medal, as did sophomore Seth Glidden (27th, 17:29). Captain Clark Glidden placed 67th and Noah Peabody placed 109th.
FIELD HOCKEY
Beverly 3, Burlington 0: The Panthers ran their record to 8-1 on the season as junior goalie Charlotte Stevens made a season high nine saves to earn her fifth shutout. Morgan Linskey had two goals, Maddie LeBlanc two assists, and captain Elliot Lund notched the game-winning tally.
BOYS SOCCER
St. John’s Prep 2, Needham 1: At the Kicks For Cancer tournament at Concord-Carlisle, the Eagles (9-0-0) got a second half penalty kick from James Minor to tie the game before Ryan King — playing for the first time in three weeks due to an ankle sprain — scored the game-winner with three minutes to go. Matt Foley, a senior captain, assisted on the winning tally, while Matt Theodore had a terrific showing on defense.

Bishop Fenwick 2, Arlington Catholic 0: Sophomore Reese Spurchise scored both goals in the second half to help the Crusaders (5-3) grab the game open and grab a CCL victory. Maeve O’Donnell assisted on both tallies while a pair of freshman, Isabella Marcinkowski and Sophia Poto, excelled on defense.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER
Salem State 2, Framingham State 2: Brenna Paquette scored both of her goals in the first ten minutes to get Salem State off to a hot start but the Rams had plenty of time to recover and netted the tying goal with 23 minutes to play. Keeper Ava Guyer made nine saves to make sure the Vikings (1-6-1) earned a point.
Gordon 3, Western New England 0: Ada Forbes put Gordon (5-2-1) ahead in the first half and Ava Forbes-Smith and Eowyn Lapp netted insurance tallies in the second half to power the Scots. Emily Bengston made three saves to claim the shutout in net.
MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER
Salem State 3, Framingham State 0: Vanilton Xavier scored the game-winner just four minutes after the opening kick and then scored his second of the game late in the second half. Charlie Goncalves also put one home for Salem State (4-2-3) and Matheus Pelissari had a pair of assists.
Gordon 1, Western New England 0: Benji Wright’s goal with less than four minutes left in regulation enabled the Scots (3-3-2) to earn a home stalemate with their conference rivals. Owen Wade assisted on the goal.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Gordon 3, Nichols 0: Annie Murphy’s ten kills led Gordon (5-6) to a balanced sweep its CNE opener, 26-24, 25-21, 25-22. Joey Keltner also had a nice match with 11 digs and three aces.
Endicott 3, Roger Williams 1: The Gulls took care of business on their home court, 27-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, as Hadley Helenbrook had 22 kills and four service aces while Hannah Maguire contributed 42 assists
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Endicott 7, Nichols 1: Emma Wilichoski out of Danvers scored a goal and Tori Swanson had a hat trick to up her season total to 15 markers to lead the Gulls (6-3) in a home romp. Grace Gervais, Reagan Hicks and Maddy Dengler also buried goals for Endicott.
Framingham State 4, Salem State 3 (2 OT): Hannah Cochran’s goal with 30 seconds left in regulation helped the Vikings (2-5) send this one to extra time before falling with 24 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. Former Bishop Fenwick star Grace Morey also had a fourth period tally for SSU, with teammate Allison Thomas adding her first career goal on a pass from Morey.
Western New England 9, Gordon 0: Allyson Stauffer made 32 saves in net for Gordon (now 0-10).
COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gordon 9, Curry 0: It was smooth sailing for the Scots (4-1) as Annette Kim and Serena Ross (6-0), Chloe Hanley and Gianna Hallam (6-0), and Makayla Otey and Amanda Kim (6-1) won in first, second and third doubles, respectively. It was more of the same at singles with Annette Kim (6-3, 6-2), Ross (6-1, 6-1), Hanley (6-3, 6-0), Otey (0-6, 7-6, 10-6), Amanda Kim (6-0, 6-3) and Hallam (6-1, 6-0) swept singles play as well.
Rhode Island College 8, Salem State 1: First singles player Madison Sartori had the lone point for the Vikings (5-2) against the unbeaten hosts, rallying to claim an exciting three-setter, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Nichols 7, Endicott 0: Second singles player Ripley Uyeda played well in the setback for Endicott (3-4), going three sets in her match before falling, 2-6, 6-2, 8-10.
