CUMBERLAND — Avery Miller recorded a hat trick to lead No. 3 Allegany to a 5-1 rout of Southern on Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
Allegany (3-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) led 3-1 at the half.
Miller began the scoring in the third minute off an assist from Peyton Schartiger. Southern’s Ava Hunt found an equalizer 15 minutes later, assisted by Sydney Scott, but the Campers tallied four straight goals to pull away.
Myia Miller notched the go-ahead goal in the 22nd minute, scoring on a direct free kick, and Avery Miller tallied the half’s final goal with 11:18 remaining via a Myia Miller assist.
Avery Miller garnered her hat trick with 22:04 remaining unassisted, and Desirae Hilton scored the game’s final goal with 20:05 to play.
Allegany had advantage in shots on goal (13-5) and corner kicks (5-1). Both teams committed two fouls. Southern keeper Addy Tasker made eight saves, and the Campers’ Brilynn Beatty came up with four.
Allegany hosts Bishop Walsh on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Southern is at Mountain Ridge on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
