LOCKPORT — A Niagara County grand jury has indicted a Falls man for the murder of his long-time partner in an act of domestic violence.
The grand jury handed up a one-count indictment charging Edward Parmer Sr., 63, with a single count of second-degree murder. Parmer pleaded not guilty to the charge during an arraignment before Niagara County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek.
Wojtaszek ordered Parmer held without bail pending further proceedings in the case.
Parmer is accused of the stabbing death of a 48-year-old woman in her home in the 400 block of 22nd Street on July 24. Police have not released the name of the victim, but family members have described her as Parmer’s domestic partner.
Those same family members said that there had been a history of domestic abuse between Parmer and the victim.
Falls police said patrol officers responded to a report of a “domestic incident” at about 2:45 a.m. on July 24 and when they arrived at the scene they found Parmer outside the home. Officers said they took Parmer into custody before entering the house.
Inside the home, officers said they found the body of the victim, lying on the floor. The victim, they said, appeared to have suffered a single stab wound to the chest.
Officers said they began administering first aid to the victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Niagara County prosecutors did not comment on the case following the arraignment.
