VOLLEYBALL
Bishop Fenwick 3, Malden Catholic 0: Gwen Schroeder had 16 digs along with five aces and the Crusaders won their third in a row to improve to 10-2 by scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-19. Caitlin Boyle provided three blocks, Calli Symond had seven kills, Kylie Murphy had five kills and Teagan Davenport handed out 10 assists.
Marblehead 3, Danvers 1: Greta Sachs had another outstanding game with a dozen kills, three aces and five blocks and Marblehead (6-3, 5-1 NEC) pulled out a 23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 triumph. Sophomore Sammy Walker was also outstanding with nine kills, nine digs and three blocks.
Senior captain Audrey Lapine had a great match for the Falcons with 20 assists and fellow captain Mia Gongas had 13 kills.
Newburyport 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0: The Generals fell 25-11, 25-28, 25-12 but got a strong all-around performance by Morgan Etna, who provided seven kills, three aces and four digs.
Revere 3, Salem 1: Junior captain Annie Thornett had 23 digs to go with six kills and fellow captain Mia Silva had 16 assists with five digs, four aces and three kills in a competitive 19-25, 25-20, 18-25, 14-25 matchup. Lix Loux added three kills, two aces and four digs for Salem (2-7) while sophomore Hawa Bah had a pair of kills plus eight digs.
Swampscott 3, Saugus 0: Junior Lila Paster had eight kills with six aces, 12 service points and two blocks to help the Big Blue (8-2) win their fourth in a row, 25-17, 26-24, 25-21. Another junior, Gillian Beaver, played well with six kills and four blocks.
Peabody 3, Beverly 0: The Tanners improved to 4-6 via a 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 victory. Playing well for the Panthers were Aleek Kuot with 14 kills plus Gabby Wickeri with 20 assists. Sam Despres and Lorelei MacKilligan combined for 20 digs as well.
FIELD HOCKEY
Swampscott 2, Gloucester 1: Chloe Puzzo and Victorie Pierro had the goals and the Big Blue (4-7) snapped a four-game losing streak by topping a solid Fisherman side. Olivia Quagrello and Maisie Russo assisted on the tallies and goalie Lylah Caplan had a strong afternoon with three saves.
Bishop Fenwick 7, Arlington Catholic 0: Sophia Cooke had two goals with an assist and Shea Mason also scored twice to power the Crusaders (4-3). Nikki Tinkham, Bella McCormack and Olivia Watson all scored while Ashley Stickeny added an assist and Bailey Chalmers stood out defensively in support of goalie Ginny Cahill.
GOLF
Newburyport 183, Essex Tech 161: Aidan Rotondo had 40 points after shooting an incredible 2-under par to lead the Hawks and Cam Casey chipped in with 32.
St. John’s Prep 227, St. John’s Shrewsbury 233: In windy and rough conditions at Salem Country Club, the Eagles (8-1) played with poise led by A.J. Bodnar shooting a 37. Seamus O’Holleran, Jack Carew, Brian Loughlin, Dominic Myers and Zach Enners all carded 38’s in an exceptionally balanced effort.
Manchester Essex 165, Ipswich 128: Connor Wright and Grant Bowser played well in adverse conditions for the Tigers (7-4) with each scoring 24 points.
BOYS SOCCER
Hamilton-Wenham 2, Essex Tech 0: The Generals got the better of the Hawks (4-3) on the turf in Hathorne.
Lynnfield 2, Ipswich 1: The Tigers took a heartbreaker in CAL Baker action.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lynnfield 4, Ipswich 0: The Tigers fell to 2-6 with a loss to the powerhouse Pioneers.
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Dean 4, Gordon 1: Josie Gayer broke up Dean’s shutout bid with a fourth quarter tally but that was all the Scots could muster offensively in falling to 0-9. Goalie Allyson Stauffer was strong in net with 14 saves.
