VALDOsTA — A Valdosta man was charged Saturday after allegedly firing a gun inside a home.
Around 1:05 p.m., police headed to a residence in the 1700 block of Clover Drive after E911 received several calls about gunshots, the Valdosta Police Department said in a statement.
Officers saw several bullet holes in the home’s sides. They found no one who had been injured and the gunshots appeared to have come from inside the building, police said.
One of the E911 callers said a 29-year-old man was in the house with the gun and that subjects had begun banging on the front door when the suspect started firing at the door, the statement said.
Six children were in the house at the time. The suspect was taken into custody and the gun retrieved, according to the statement.
The suspect was taken to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony tampering with evidence, misdemeanor reckless conduct and six misdemeanor charges of cruelty to children in the third degree, the police statement said.
“Our officers did a great job noticing that the evidence did not match what they were told. Due to their thorough investigation, they were able to quickly identify who shot the gun. We are very lucky that someone, especially a child, did not get injured during this reckless act,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
