Subscribers of The Meridian Star will soon see their newspapers begin arriving a different way as the paper transitions to all mail delivery.
Currently, about half of the Star’s subscribers receive their paper through the United States Postal Service while the other half get their paper delivered by a carrier. USPS will begin handling 100% of newspaper deliveries beginning Sept. 17.
Rising costs and industry trends make carrier delivery unsustainable for the long term, and the Star is following many of its peers in moving to a postal service delivery format. Currently, about 70% of newspapers in the country are delivered via the mail.
So, what does this mean for readers? In short, not much, and it is our intention to make this transition as unnoticeable as possible.
The Meridian Star will continue to provide reliable, accurate and timely journalism to Meridian, Lauderdale County and the surrounding areas, and we will continue to deliver that news through both our print and online products.
Subscribers to the print newspaper also receive access to our website, meridianstar.com, which is updated constantly with local, state and national news, as well as our e-paper, magazines and special sections, a catalog of games and more. For assistance accessing our digital products, contact our circulation department at 601-485-1232.
Print subscribers who receive home delivery but have mail sent to a separate address or post office box are asked to call 601-485-1232 and make sure their correct mailing information is on file to ensure their paper gets sent to the right place.
Founded in 1898, The Meridian Star has been a fixture of East Mississippi for 126 years, and our longevity can be directly attributed to decades of support from our subscribers and advertisers. We appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to continuing to be an integral part of the community for years to come.
Readers can reach us at 601-693-1551 or email publisher@themeridianstar.com with any questions regarding the change to mail delivery.
