Odds and Ends: Newburyport was young a year ago after its undefeated championship season of 2022, but developed a strong core that will lead the program this fall. Leading the way there are returning Daily News All-Stars Ryan Gasbarro and Grady Smith in the midfield, and the Clippers also feature two star defenders in Henry Walker and Finn McNeil. … The program did suffer a loss, though, when Ryan’s twin brother, Sean Gasbarro, announced he would be playing for the prestigous Seacoast United MLS Next U19 team. … You always have to account for the athletic, 6-foot-6 Jalen Wise, a combined three-time Daily News Track All-Star during both indoor and outdoor season who possesses tons of speed. … The Clippers also have a pair of Daily News Tennis All-Stars on the team in Conner DeMann and Brindley Fisher. … Newburyport has started the year 1-1-0 after beating Pentucket, followed by a loss to Lynnfield. Freshman goalie Tyler Lisauskas has played well in both matches.

The Panthers only graduated one senior from last year’s roster, and have returning Daily News All-Star and two-year captain Brayden Jennings leading the charge. … Jennings will be a top goal scorer for the team along with speedy junior Jayden Pabst, a three-sport standout who is a Daily News Ski All-Star, and who hit .313 for the baseball team last spring. … Fellow junior Owen Aalto returns for his second full season as the team’s starting goalie. … Mason Skinner is a two-time Daily News Wrestling All-Star who made it to the New England Championship last winter at 190 pounds. … Similarly, Aiden Napolitano is more well-known for being a Daily News All-Star defender for the lacrosse team during the spring. … Three-sport standout Mac Cole plays lacrosse as well, along with being a top defenseman for the hockey team. … Both Gabe McLeod and Owen Corkery star in track for the Panthers during the spring.
