The members of the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners are scheduled to vote Monday on two agreements with Dalton Utilities to extend sewer.
The commissioners meet at 6 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room of the county courthouse. The meeting will be livestreamed on the county’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
One agreement would extend sewer to Command Drive and Gillespie Drive. That calls for 3,650 feet of low-pressure sewer force main and 1,700 feet of gravity sewer. Fire Station 8 is on Command Drive and several county facilities including the Public Works Department are on Gillespie Drive.
The cost of the project is $386,345 and would be paid for with the county’s share of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
The other agreement would extend sewer on Cleveland Highway north to Upper Varnell Road and McGaughey Chapel Road. That project would cost $473,500 and would also be paid for with ARPA money.
The board of Dalton Utilities has already approved both agreements.
The commissioners are also expected to vote on whether to:
— Apply for a $200,000 grant from the Georgia Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations for a study of the traffic corridor on Dug Gap Road between Connector 3 and Walnut Avenue. The grant would require $40,000 in matching funds.
— Approve a contract with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission’s Congregate Meal Grant Program. The county has been awarded a grant from that program of up to $72,000 to fund meals at the senior center.
— Apply for a $375,760 Southeast Aquatics Grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The money would be used to replace the bridge culvert on Tilton Road that crosses Thomason Creek, a tributary of the Conasauga River. This bridge replacement is on the list of projects to be funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) approved by voters in May. The grant would require $375,760 in local matching funds, which would come from the SPLOST.
