TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City St. Francis bounced back from its lone loss of the season with a victory over Ludington.
The Gladiators got off to a 6-0 start in their inaugural season under the St. Francis banner as a varsity boys soccer co-op with Traverse City Christian before suffering their first defeat against Warren De La Salle at the Traverse City West Labor Day Showcase on Saturday.
But the Glads responded with a 5-3 win over visiting Ludington at the Keystone Soccer Complex on Thursday.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie nearly halfway through the first half before St. Francis got on the board to make it 1-0 with 20:29 left. The Gladiators kept the pressure on and notched another goal with 3:16 remaining to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Orioles (5-3-3) put on a charge in the second 40 minutes, but St. Francis did enough to move to 7-1 on the season.
Liam Donnell and Louis Rhein each had two goals, and Sam McMann scored the other. McMann also had an assist as Donnell finished with two helpers and Landen Kiessel tallied one. Conner Hudson made eight saves in net for the Gladiators.
St. Francis has some time off before traveling to Ogemaw Heights on Wednesday.
