WEST NEWBURY — Fire Department crews and mutual aid partners participated in the rescue of a Belgian Draft horse on Sunday.
Chief Michael Dwyer reports that around noon on Sunday, West Newbury firefighters responded to 2 Georgetown Road for a report of a horse in distress.
On arrival, first responders found a 1,800-lb. Belgian draft horse, Summer, that was on the floor of a barn stall in significant distress.
West Newbury firefighters worked with specialty equine rescue personnel and the horse’s boarders to get it upright.
After 90 minutes, Summer was up and being cared for my emergency veterinarians.
The Amesbury Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance joined West Newbury firefighters and other personnel at the scene. The Essex County Technical Rescue Team provided guidance to teams on scene.
