VALDOSTA — Weather in South Georgia over the next week can be summed up like this: Hot, hot and hot.
The National Weather Service’s forecast for Valdosta pegs the high temperature all the way through Monday at 95 degrees and remaining in the low 90s for the rest of the week after that.
Temperatures will be similar in Tifton, topping out at 94 early in the week.
Joe Wheeler, a meteorologist at the weather service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office, said the hot weather over the weekend is due to a “stagnant pattern” in the atmosphere.
Later in the week, while temperatures will still be high, rain and thunderstorm chances will increase, to as high as 70% on Tuesday. Wheeler said this will be due to a frontal system moving through the area.
Asked about the chances for severe weather, he said it should be primarily be the usual spotty afternoon thunderstorms.
