The Limestone County Commission gave the green light to submit multiple grant applications for the Community Corrections program’s upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year — for nearly $90,000 — during its meeting Friday, Aug. 16.
The three grants would go to the following:
— Veterans Treatment Court, totaling $29,984.
— Drug Court, totaling $29,950.
— Family Treatment Court, $29,540.
“Any dollar that we can get in grants saves taxpayer money, and allows us to explore other things we can do in the county,” Limestone County Commissioner Collin Daly told The News Courier.
Daly said that the grant applications will secure vital funds for the local initiatives that have a focus on rehabilitation and reintegration of low level offenders back into society.
The Limestone County Community Corrections Program has aimed to place nonviolent offenders into the Community Corrections Program Plan — diverting them from the penitentiary. Their goal has been accomplished through strict offender accountability, intense supervision and referral to special services, according to the official Limestone County website limestonecounty-al.gov/.
During the regular meeting on Friday, commissioners voted unanimously to approve the application for the grants for the upcoming fiscal year that arrives on Oct. 1, 2024. The commission also unanimously voted to approve the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year contract with the Alabama Department of Youth Services for detention bed use for the juvenile court.
“I want to thank my grant staff for helping to find and get this done,” Daly said. “I also want to thank my Community Corrections Director Many Morgan for working to get this done for us every year.”
