VALDOSTA— Valdosta Early College Academy (VECA) celebrated the unveiling of a new mural that highlights the partnership between the early college academy and Valdosta State University.
The event hosted students, faculty, parents, community leaders, and district representatives, all of whom gathered to celebrate a piece of art that school officials said embodies the VECA’s core values and connections.
The mural, rich in vibrant colors, is a visual representation of the values central to Valdosta Early College Academy: relationships, respect, responsibility, and rigor. Principal Alex Alvarez pointed out that these values are not mere words on a wall; they form the foundation upon which the students’ educational journey is built.
Artist Shay Clayton, who created the mural, addressed the students directly: “Congratulations. Everything that this mural is, is a representation of you.”
The dedication was particularly significant as it coincided with the eve of the senior class’s final year of dual enrollment. Alvarez expressed his pride in the occasion, emphasizing that the mural is more than just a work of art — it reflects the school community’s identity and collective goals.
“This mural is a testament to our victories, both big and small, and to the relentless spirit of our senior class of 2025,” stated Alvarez.
