MANKATO — City officials expect to open part of Riverfront Drive in seven to 10 days providing relief to beleaguered business owners.
At that point, six blocks of a nine-block project will be completed, and traffic will be allowed to return to the business district between Main Street and Rock Street. The $9 million construction project will then shift to the segment stretching from the Rock Street intersection to the north toward Madison Avenue.
The final segment before the work wraps up at the end of October or early in November will involve the reconstruction of the Madison Avenue/Riverfront intersection.
The first two-inch layer of pavement went down Wednesday between Main and Plum streets. And despite overnight rains, the second layer was placed on Thursday.
After the third layer brings the pavement to six inches, contractor Dirt Merchant Inc. will begin paving from Plum to Washington Street, followed by Washington to the south side of Rock.
