VALDOSTA — As Tropical Storm Debby recedes into the distance, South Georgia will revert to its usual summer pattern of late afternoon thunderstorms, forecasters said Friday.
“As the week progresses, the chance of rain will grow for the entire area,” said Lance Frank, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s office in Tallahassee, Fla.
The weather service’s forecast for Valdosta shows sunny skies and rain chances growing from 10% Friday night to 50% Sunday, leveling off to 30-40% daily over the next seven days.
High temperatures should hold steady in Valdosta weeklong in the mid-90s, said Renee Duff, senior meteorologist for the private forecasting firm AccuWeather. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-70s, the weather service said.
Remnants of Debby lingering off the coast will help drive up thunderstorm chances toward the end of the week, she said.
Neither forecaster foresaw any strong chance of severe weather in South Georgia this week, though Duff said an occasional isolated strong storm could not be ruled out.
