Residents of Rocky Face and the Tunnel Hill area may soon have a new shopping alternative. Dollar General is building a store at the intersection of Highway 201 and Chattanooga Road/Highway 41.
“At this time, a store opening is slated for fall 2024, but understand that construction progress may alter this date,” the company said in a statement.
The statement said the company does not currently plan to relocate its Tunnel Hill store to this new location.
“The new Rocky Face store will employ approximately six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store,” the statement said. “Anyone interested in joining one of America’s fastest-growing retailers with competitive wages and benefits, world-class training and development, and the ability to further their career through our growing organization may apply for available positions online at www.dollargeneral.com/careers.”
John Allen, who was getting gasoline at a convenience store near the site, said he can’t quite understand why the company is building a store at that location.
“There’s already three dollar stores within a couple of miles around here,” he said. “But I guess they know what they are doing. You see them built close together all over, and they all seem to do good.”
In its statement, the company said, “Dollar General sells quality, name-brand and private-brand merchandise such as foods, health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing. In addition to high-quality private brands, Dollar General sells products from America’s most-trusted brands such as Clorox, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg’s, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola.”
