TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — After losing a 10-0 lead in a loss to the Terre Haute Rex, the Danville Dans were trying to make sure that would not happen again in the final game of the regular season on Wednesday against the Rex.
The Dans built a 4-0 lead in the fifth, but once again they saw that lead get chipped away by the Rex to 4-3 going into the ninth inning.
In the ninth, Terre Haute’s Eli Riley tied the game with a double and later in the inning, Gabe Wright hit a three-run home run to get the Rex a 7-4 win at Bob Warn Field.
Danville got their runs in the fifth with a two-run home run by Sebastian Arguelles, a RBI double by Josh Davis and a RBI single by Nate Chester.
Jack Helms had seven strikeouts in seven innings and only gave up four hits to start for the Dans and Maks Pierga had four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings in taking the loss.
Cade Mason had a triple and scored on an error and Dawson Estep hit a solo home run in the sixth for the Rex and Wright was able to steal home in the eighth.
The Dans end the regular season at 30-26 and will play the Rex for the third straight time on Thursday in the Central Division Championship Game at Danville Stadium.
