TIFTON — Tift County Recreation Department unveiled its new pickleball facility July 12, a state-of-the-art facility that may see Tifton become a hub for the sport.
Tony McBrayer and Tift County Recreation Department head Tim Petrea welcomed attendees to the opening of the courts on Baldwin Drive.
The opening was the end of a long project that saw the conversion of tennis courts at that location. The new pickleball facility fixed a drainage problem and added a covered concession stand and restrooms to a brand new surface and layout.
Petrea and McBrayer noted it’s already paying off. There have already been inquiries about hosting area tournaments. A fall league is set to play every Thursday beginning Aug. 8. To sign up, visit pickleballbrackets.com.
