VALDOSTA — Baxa Campbell, a student at Scintilla Charter Academy, has been selected for the High School Honors Performance Series at The Royal Festival Hall in London.
Campbell will perform as an alto in July with the High School Honors Performance Series Choir. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world, according to a press release from the Honors Performance Series.
Campbell auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was recently accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board, the release said. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording, the organization said.
Campbell has studied music for nine years and is a member of The South Georgia Drama KIDZ Theatre Guild. She proudly maintains A Honor Roll and has received multiple academic awards including Honors with Distinction and two Highest Honor Recipient Awards upon completing her ninth grade year, the press release said.
Campbell also received two Superior Ratings from the National Federation of Music Clubs for piano in 2024. She enjoys musical theater and singing, and she takes dance classes such as tap, jazz, pointe and ballet.
“I am excited to collaborate with a professional conductor and to prepare a repertoire that contains styles of music I have never performed,” Campbell said.
Campbell will join performers from around the world for a special performance at the world-famous Royal Festival Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists will come together in London where they will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of Britain’s finest. The Honors Performance will take place Sunday, July 28, and is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased beginning approximately 60 days prior to the performance through the Royal Festival Hall box office.
“Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” said Marion Gomez, music director for the Honors Performance Series. “We processed nearly 10,000 nominations this year and have selected the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at these renowned music halls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians will never forget.”
