Murray County Sole Commissioner Greg Hogan recently renewed an agreement with the North Georgia Community Action Agency to provide public transportation from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. The local 50% operating match is estimated at $301,014, plus a 10% local match of $11,846 for bus replacements.
Murray County Transit is the county’s public transportation service. It provides non-emergency transportation services to the senior center, grocery stores, medical appointments and other destinations.
It is available Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. It can be reached at (706) 695-5161.
During that same public meeting, Hogan:
— Amended building permit fees to comply with state House Bill 461.
“Governing authorities can no longer charge by the estimated cost of the project,” said Murray County Manager/Financial Officer Tommy Parker. “We will fix the price based on the square footage. The total cost of a given (project) will not change very much. Fees are set to cover the cost of the service for those that use it.”
— Recommended to Superior Court Chief Judge Cindy Morris that Beth Thornbury and Chris Townsend be appointed to the Board of Elections and Registration.
— Reappointed Nicki Tallent, Laura Greeson and Kirk Hemphill to the Murray County Recreation Board.
— Reappointed Terry Wilson to the Murray County Land Use and Planning Commission.
“The terms for all three (boards) are for four years,” said Parker. The election board terms will end on 12/31/24 because they are filling unexpired terms. We always maintain the integrity of the terms. We expect to reappoint all five members to a new four-year term. The recreation board has seven members. The planning commission has five members.”
