The United States celebrates its 248th birthday Thursday. and the city of Dalton has a full day of events scheduled at Heritage Point Park and the Mack Gaston Community Center as part of its Fourth of July celebration.
The events kick off at 9 a.m. with an old-timers softball game at Heritage Point. A pickup softball tournament follows at 10 a.m., also at Heritage Point.
The splash pad at the community center opens at noon.
Music starts on the Heritage Point stage at 4 p.m.
Registration for the cornhole tournament takes place at 4:30 at Heritage Point, and the tournament kicks off at 5:30.
Registration for the Little Miss Recreation pageant is at 5:30, and the pageant starts at 6:30.
The day will end at around 9:30 with a fireworks show at Heritage Point. The show will last at least 20 minutes.
And after the Independence Day celebration ends, there will still be plenty to do in Dalton.
On Friday, the Off the Rails Summer Entertainment Series continues at the Burr Performing Arts Park with a celebration of 1990s rock. Jeremy’s Ten, Doc Martens Flannel Review and Hunter Fountain will perform.
The Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia, along with the Creative Arts Guild, the Dalton Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Downtown Dalton Development Authority, present the series. The events are free, open to the public and family friendly. Typically the first act takes the stage around 6:30 p.m. The opening act will start on the main stage around 7:30, and the headliner will take the main stage around 8:30.
